The Electronic Mass Communication Medium started in 1980s with E-Mail, to send and get reply on one to one basis. A large number of E-Mail communication channels started spinning together to form a WEB in the universe, through main-frame computer links, during 1990s. The Web cumulated together to open the Networks, provided links towards the Personal Computer users, to operate through a Browser, on an open choice basis. This initiated the production and exhibition of individual WEB-SITES of multi-various attractions, attributes, features, orientations, tastes etc....

Now in 2000s, the Internet + Each WEB site is an equivalent to a News Paper + Fax + Postal Link + Stereo Broadcasting + Telephone + Television + etc... Producing something and placing it open in a Web-Site has become a profession to that of a highly configured, edited and assembled TV Serial or a Cinematographic film.

A. WEB CLASSIFICATIONS.     SHOPPING

  • The Web-Sites could be classified into Business, Commerce, Communication, Education, Entertainment, Information, Link-provider, Pass-time, Personal, Social etc...

  • Those who browse a Web-Site is considered as a CustomerHedonist, Information Seeker, On-looker, PlayboyPlayerSearcher etc... depending upon the category and classification of the Web-Site.

  • The Web-sites are an exact  equivalent of a Cinema, Radio or TV. Those who browse are controlled and directed by the medium, as planned and programmed. There is an uni-directional flow of information from the Web to the Spectator or Watcher.

  • If a person watching a Web wishes to communicate back, the options are either Nil or a Contact-us pop-up, with a preface that "it may not be possible for us to reply to your query due to very large number of such contacts".

  • Most of them are preset to get unilateraltabulated and tight-choice information as per the  requirement and  needs of the  Web source, rather than a facility  for a free and fair feed-back.  This is followed by a computer generated acknowledgment, and  hardly supported by any genuine reply with a human touch and appreciation.

  • The common practice to avoid the service to the web watcher is to direct them into a Frequently asked questions (FAQ), having a set of pre-generated questions and pre-set answers, as imagined by the authors and the  service personnel behind the web-site.   It is hardly updated to include any genuine queries form the watchers.

  • Also the FAQ lead the person into a dense forest of many confusing queries, which the watcher never thought ofdrag into a loop of mind boggling answers, which further motivate to ask for   subsequent questions, ultimately make one to  forget the original intention with which the FAQ was selected, and come out without any answer and in  frustration.

  • No need to say that the same is the experience with Help screens.

B. MY WEB.     SHOPPING

  • In the midst of this vast and vicious Web environment, I decided to open a Web-Site with a drastically different dimension on Research and Development / Motivation / Innovation / New Concepts / Propagation, leading towards Better living and Peaceful environments, with an added advanced know-how on various fields.
I kept the span of attraction and interest to cater from a Farmer in a remote Village in an under-developed nation to the level of a sophisticated Techno-Commercial  Research Scholar in an accredited university in the developed world.

  • I intentionally opted to call those who browse my site, through a  honorable and respectable  name as VIEWERS. This is a word of dual-pointer. In the forward direction as verb it views (See). In the reverse direction, as a noun  it expresses the views (Opinion) of what is viewed. To have the benefit of both, I developed an enormous choices of  key-words with on-line click facility,  and provided an open option  feed-back form, with vital and bear-minimum  pre-set  information.  Also I publicised my E-Mail contact address on the top of all pages, whichever the Viewer chooses to see. The theme and the object behind my Web-Site was a Bi-lateral benefit, both for me and my viewers, with a Soft  human touch, through the medium of  Hardware electronics .

  • This is because I considered my Viewers   in the fore-ground, as a part and parcel, as well as the beneficiaries of my ideas, ideologies, innovations, motivations and my thoughts, spinning in my back-ground, to weave the Web and spread it over the Net.

  • I was longing to get their feed-back, both positive and negative, as well as their aspirations, experiences, feelings, inherent values,  inspirations, suggestions, queries etc... to improve my thoughts and contributions, as well as to be of use to the people, society and the world, in which I am an infinitesimal part .

  • This is the history of this Viewer's Views. But, the off-spring of this approach infers that if all persons in a nation and the world is given an open-choice to express their free and fair views, then there will be an optimum peace,  prosperity and happiness. But such a choice is not made available freely and fairly, by those who are expected to open that channel. This is in line with the following expressions :-

  • Full many a gem of purest ray serene, The   dark unfathomed caves of ocean bear ;

  • Full many a flower born to blush unseen, And hath waste its sweetness on the desert air.

  • "Elegy written in a Country Churchyard" By : Thomas Gray, English poet (1716 - 1771)

C. FEED-BACK.       SHOPPING

I have floated this Web for over 3 Years with open feed-back opportunity to my Viewers. (From August 2001).

I have so far received as many as 2,496 Ambitious, Challenging, Creative, Imaginative, Ingenious, Interesting, Innovative, Motivating, Stimulating and Thought-provoking...., and More Research & Development oriented feed-back communications !!! Exposition of all these in this internet page is not possible. But the thought-provoking ones with my replies are listed below.

The summary of my feeling is that Internet in general and my Web-Site in particular is able to motivate a feeling that the World is one and every individual is a component population, irrespective their living locations.

I submit my thanks and good wishes to all  my Internet Site Hosts.

The amazing as aspects of these inter-communications are :-

  1. The persons who took the initiative to explore my Concepts on Socio-Economic Development aspects are less-educated villagers and students, who took the pain to understand themselves or  approached a nearby college Professor in Economics or Mathematics, requested to decipher them, to their level of understanding, and communicated with me. It implies 4 astonishing aspects :-

  • My concepts are very much of interest, importance and attractive to the dire needs of the down-trodden and Economically and Socially stagnated community.

  • Less-educated and Less-privileged community provide a base to propagate and popularise my Concepts to the Educated and Esteemed class of population in the world.

  • The Internet communication has drastically expanded its span down to the remote village locations.

  • Communication through Internet is cheaper and faster than any other mode for even to a grass-root level Rural population.

  1. The Management and Productivity concepts has provided a broad-based attraction to the Students, Teachers/Professors and Government servants. It infers 3 major viewer inclinations.

  • The future generation population is very serious to manage the wealth and their utility, with a prime view to bring the fruits of their administrative capability for a broad-range of the domestic population.
  • The People in the administrative hierarchy of the Government are drastically looking for new Concepts and Dimensions to build a hard-core infrastructure towards an optimised utility / evaluation of the public resources, with reference the domestic prosperity and up-gradation of the standard of living in their nation.
  • Professors and Teachers  in management faculty are keen to sharpen the management decision and productivity tools towards more practical and implementable ways for national advancement methodologies.
  • It is interesting to find taht Private business personnel are trying to understand the necessity to have a Socio-Economic delepment oriented Productivity  measurement even in   their limited operations.
  1. The Software has a ambitious and large number of audience ranging from a new Student wishing to make a career, techno-commercial professionals, to any accredited and well established Business house interested to introduce the Quality component in their Software Infrastructure. This segment has understood the impact of the following 6 dimensions with every interest and sincerity :-

  • Buying Computer and Software need a pre-plan and fore-sighted expectations regarding their utility.

  • A Software should meet certain Expectations and Quality standards prior to their acquisition.

  • Software cannot bring in Productivity and Prosperity, unless there is an in-house infrastructure.

  • Software needs a continued and in-house updating support.

  • Testing and correct performance of a Software is more important to avoid hidden Calamity of mis-information and irreparable Errors.

  • The importance and methodology to have Techno-Commercial Job know as more important than the programming knowledge.

When a Personal Computer (PC)  or Laptop is purchased, the current commercial practice includes the price with licensed versions of Windows, Games, Internet Browsers, Videos, Techno-commercial Design Software etc...as a package. These are pre-recorded on the hard disc and delivered to the customers. Hence many buyers feel that the pre-recorded software as a pre-set hardware chips.  This Viewers view columns has become a medium to clarify this ambiguity.

  1. The Musical aspects has appealed to the entertainers at all level, from home, teachers to public producers and performers. The interesting aspect is that they feel more disciplined and expecting to Optimise their contributions, by understanding the Mathematical component in more depth. It was interesting and surprising to find that even an elementary level teacher in music can initiate and provoke thoughts of  research and development in complex musical instrument design !!! Also Music on-line while browsing creates a sensation of happiness and peaceful background, while browsing the Web. Hence a meaningful theme music in provided for each frame.

  1. Innovation and Motivation have initiated an assorted interest among Rural and Urban population, as well as career making Research Scholars in USA. . I am happy to find that :-

  • It has obviously provided a base to  clarify and clean their inhibitions and closed-mindedness, that these are possible, even if their Economic and Social needs are not fully satisfied.

  • These can act as a foundation to bring-in more Economic and Social prosperity not only to them, but also to their Home, Society, Nation and the World.

  • Another new and unexpected outcome is that many feel the introduction of  Computer as a threat to human innovation.

  • Career making individuals look forward to specific professional target guidance to specialise and develop an intensive motivation to progress forward.

  1. Smart Thoughts is an eye-opener for me based on the communications received on the Viewer's Views. Some innovative viewers of my Web-site found the "Viewer's View" itself serves as a pool of information,  useful to persons of similar thoughts and queries. This page serves as a direct reference and explanation centre for many of my drastically new and first of its kind concepts. The feed-back on this confirms the following.

  • It has a stand alone use for the better understanding of the different faculties of specialisation and their inter link.

  • A reference tool for those who do career guidance, particularly School Teachers.

  1. The Faculty and Publication contents seems to have a valuable material for Researchers, Librarians, Professional Associations, Private Training Institutions as well as the Parents and the Student community, for career making utility.

  • They have exhibited a keen interest in the topics,guide-lines and the classified and heterogeneous variety of Techno-Commercial audience to which they are of importance,  to the current and future generation management methodology.

  1. Stars in the Sky is now added to provide the knowledge of the space matters right from a common man to the level of a professional astronomer. Traditional names, clusters, galaxies,   and other interesting features are added to serve a broad range of viewers.  Also, it is designed in such a way that everybody can look into the sky and identify these objects.

  • A new dimension on Energy - Matter - Life - Space {ENMALISP(Philoso-Scientific)} concept is introduced with a thought-provoking research dimension. This section is designed exclusively with emphasis on Astro-Physics know-how optimisation for a broad-based viewers. The feed-back infers that Astronomers, Professors in Physics, Philosophers and Students  have  expressed an extraordinary interest on the contents of these pages.

  • As expected and of common interest for all the people in the world, the clarifications and relationship between Astrology and Astronomy are are also initiated.

  1. My Personal achievements and contributions have appealed to a range of viewers. They feel that producing matters of multi-dimensional nature and imparting an interesting touch to the contents, is an inherent ability transmitted by each individual family generations, Educational qualifications, Training etc....  It is made clear that every individual is born with the same capability. But exhibiting the same to the benefit of the society and the public is based on the individual's , ability  to filter / select the required abilities + some  Innovation + some Self-motivation. Then exch individual developes  into a performer.

  •   Expressible surplus is more important and valuable than, what one possesses in the mind.
  1. Viewers Views was designed by me to propagate the interesting and important   Viewer's observations, queries and my reply.  The aim was also to pool this at one point, so that other viewers of similar views and requirements could benefit. But I was surprised to find that there are some patron viewers to this page. They first view this page and then decide to view other pages based on the feed-back communications. Some of the interesting views expressed by the viewers on this page are are :-

  • Answers  some of the prime expectations  of the viewers (Like Career making,Musical anomalies etc...).

  • Benefit of practical application experience of my concepts and principles.

  • Invokes new thoughts on seeing the questions and my answer to other viewers.

  • Provides the pleasure of reading other's letters !! (This is a productive reading pleasure, of course).

  • Those who use the Viewer's Views as a basis to communicate with me, look forward to  explanations on some of my concepts and relationships on the theories. These needs are pooled and centrally loaded on a page called "Smart Thoughts". This is an eye opener page for me to document the explanations both for my own thoughts as well to transmit the same to those who wish to understand the same in detail.

  1.  Quotes is an off-spring based on  the feed-back from the Viewer's Views. A sizeable  number of  Viewers felt that all the useful and valuable quotations in this website are  "Development Oriented Words of Wisdom". Hence pooling them together and presenting in one place will assist the sharpening of the individual viewer's thoughts.  Accordingly, a page on Quotes is organised and presented. Every Quotation slots here are from a Relevant Page in this Website, where they appear. Their inner meanings have a great relevance to that Page content. At the header, hyperlink is provided to go to the         concerned page where the quotation appears.

Also, the  matter in each component page of the Innovative, Informative and New Concepts lead to  an inherent "Quote" of value in life. To provide a better understandingjoyful view and motivation to these pages, a  Quotation with a support Picture is made at the bottom.  These are also summarised in a
"Picture Quote page".
These are to Read & Relax an then Rejoice & Realise the Value of each page in this Website. Besides the Scenic Beauty, Alliteration and Rhyme, each Pictures and Quotation has an Intrinsic Inner Meaning to the contents of a Relevant Web Page in this Site.

  1. Animation provides a feeling of oneness with the site contents, because of the actions of the animated element is synchronised with the expectations of the viewers, from a selected page. Plenty of animations are added at appropriate locations to achieve this aspect of the Viewer's happiness.

  2. Happiness is an invaluable  treasure expected by many, but enjoyed by  a few. A separate review of the elements and contents of the happiness are provided by a bi-fold method.

    • A detailed write-up and conclusions on the methodology to install happiness in one's mind

    • Jokes to convey the theme in  a page in an amusing fashion. It is ensured that these are appealing, general, positive, practical and quotable.

    • Jokes impart a mental happinessand it has to be equally supported and motivated by physical happiness. Hene the personalities invoking the joke eat and enjoy a tasty and mouth watering food item. This  is a theme item of the page contents. The  Recipe  of the same is explained in detail, after a practical test and live eating by the Web author DR.VSRS. Viewer's Quiries and my Answers on these recipes are also recorded at the bottom of the recipes.

  3. Assistance  is necessary among human generation for mutual growth and development in any area of operation. Web site author, the Internet host and the Viewers are the three human radicals bound together in the space module, in the World Wide Web (www).
Web Author (A) : Compiles and presents the expected information for a selected group of Viewers. The content matter could be either constructive or destructive. The author could be knowledge & Service oriented or Money minded. Even an informative and clean site could lead the Viewers into a bush of filthy and un-palatable matters by floating advertisements.
Web Host (H) :  Protect and hold the unique Web Addresses.  Provide the Server disc space and maintain an infrastructure to make information compiled, published and updated by the Author, the continually available the in the cyber space.
Web Viewers (V) : This represents the whole world population, covering all age groups, all professions, all specialised interests etc... They log in to any information web by either calling the unique Wed address or through a Search and Select at random basis. They view the contents and selectively provide a feed back or Contact / Assist the Web author, if they feel a need for it. The Author may Help them by providing a reply or adding the needs of the Viewers in their site.
The AHV Trio, thus function in a circular path, and by this process.

Assistance and Help are relatively linked for Human progress. Human generation progresses more by asking for anything and everything, when a need arises, without any hesitation and reservation. This is a tool for Growth and Development
 - Albert Einstein.

Everybody is an Expert in their exclusive Domain of Operation. Hence, anybody can Assist anybody else on a common platform, where they Mutually and Relatively share a common knowledge - DR.VSRS.

ABOUT DR.VSRS - 01 of 02

Arjun Singh, Social Worker, Greater kailash, New Delhi, India. 23rd September 2001 { TOPIC : DR.VSRS }

I have met you when you got the Shriram Award of the All India management Association, New Delhi, for your publication "Mathematical Approach to manpower Planning".

That paper was the first in the field of personnel management to practically apply a mathematical tool of probability theory, to an Indian company, as early as 1968. At that time the personnel management was not in any advanced stage, to think of using a mathematical method.

Similarly in June 1985, you published the paper "Corporate Infrastructure for Fifth Generation Computers" in Indian Manager, journal of the All India management Association.  In those days, computerisation and training in  corporate sectors was guided and controlled by international  giants like IBM, with main frame installations, supported by punch cards for data entry,  large size tape rolls and heavy duty disks for data storage. Your paper was introducing a new dimension into the self-responsibility of the corporate sectors in computer utility, as well as the internet concepts of what we see in 2000s, and never thought of in 1980s. This paper also deserves a Shriram Award, and I do not know  whether you really got it or not.

You are always keeping the habit of being a pioneer and forerunner in any field. Now you have published the research papers in the area of "Accelerating the socio-economic development" using a geometric model, and a paper on "Productivity redefinition" and "Management Decision" using a algebraic model.

I saw your website having many diversified and interesting features. Is it imparted by your hereditary habits, or the family background, or the training imparted to you by your job associates or you have acquired on your own ? It will be helpful to me to strengthen my future thoughts on active lines like yours.

My Reply

Your communication  seems to be limited only my personal page "About Dr.VSRS". There are many people in the world belonging to different hereditary, back ground, geographic location etc.. have performed amazingly intelligent and have contributed many features, which added many new dimension to the pattern of human life in the world today. The contributory capability of all the human being in the world is the same, when he / she is born. Every person goes through the following sequential order of self development.

  1. Born capabilities, imparted by the hereditary, and the environments during the childhood. (Like interest in music, art, sports etc.. imparted by the gene and way of life of the parents).

  2. Required capabilities forced by the environments. (Such as going the to school early in the morning, Shift work in a factory, Necessities forced by a water shortage situation or living closer to a noisy traffic condition etc.. even-though it is not to the liking of the individual).

  3. Group capabilities acquired to keep the company and the basic norms of a group in which one lives or work with. (Like smoking, interest in social service, public speaking etc... not for the self, but for a society).

  4. Trained capabilities imparted by certain Techno-Commercial or Social or Individual conditioning methods (Army, Art, Music, Games etc... grooming techniques)

The quantitative and the qualitative absorption of these complex capabilities 1 to 4 by every individual leads to his / her "Emergent capability".

Each person should think, filter and acquire the quantitative and qualitative aspects of the "Needed capabilities"  during the course of his / her life.

Also every person should have at least a minimum quantum of "Self Motivation" and certain aspects of "Innovative capabilities". Then he / she will become a person of an "Extended Contributory capability". The individual then emerges as a "Performer"

The above details can be diagrammatically shown as below :-

FACULTYSHIPS - 01 of 01

  • Ramiss Akhthab, Marketing Executive, Sath Khalifa, Qatar. 4th April 2002. { TOPIC : FACULTY }

I feel great to see you back in the web. I remember the days when we were together in Qatar. I am trying to put my children in modern education at back home (Lebanon). Now a days you see Computer is the job opportunity of the future. Also American or British degrees are required to get good jobs. See the ads in the local classified or in the internet search, you will know the position.

You are a faculty of a good variety of fields and in various world parts. I wish to consult you to know what area I choose to leave my son for a good future. Now he is completing his A level.

My Reply

I am happy to see your electronic communication reminding our past personal contacts. Now, you have made 2 thinkable statements, relating to the area of career opportunity for the future generation. One is Computer and the other is education with a Country Tag.

1. Computer

To day it is an area of prime need at Home, Office, Super markets etc... Inter personnel and the whole world is linked by the computer. If you try to analyse the job and career opportunity in this field, it is limited to 2 area namely Hardware and Software.

A. Hardware : In-side the shell of a computer  are micro-chips and multi-layer printed circuit boards. These are "hi-tech", "hi-precision" and "micro-size" items. These are designed and manufactured in large scale, by computer controlled "Robots". The manual job opportunity in this field is limited to Assembly, Packing, Dispatching and Marketing / Sales. You remove the computer tag on these jobs. Then you could see these are generalised jobs applicable to any field.

B. Software : The prestigious "thinking" profession or "Programers" who make "Software" in a "Special Language", understood only by them and the computer, has dwindled and disappearing fast. Now any user can create his own needs by "Plug and Play" or "Visual" languages, assisted by a "Help Menu" (Called WYSIWYG or What You See Is What You Get - Courtesy Micro Soft). The computer generates the necessary software in the background. Hence the Programer's profession in the foreground is  now limited to mastering this computer aided "Support-wares" in the background.

Hence the  study for future survival has opened towards a large generalised area form the century old specialised and limited area (Like Accounts, Commerce, Economics, Engineering, Medical, Science, etc..). The new requirement is management and information support for all these specialised areas. This is provided by  Business Administration (BBA, MBA), Computer Administration (BCA, MCA) etc..., after getting a basic degree in the specialised area (B.A, B.Com, B.E, B.Sc, MBBS etc).

Every one should orient his/her knowledge at first to their (any) field of interest, and aptitude, where one can shine and do well at the graduate level. Then cross integrate it with computer application in a post graduate level.

2. Country tag.

The qualification attained by any individual from any institution and from any location should have equal value in the world. But as you have correctly pointed out, it is not so. It varies based on a country tag. This is because the Universities in the "developed" countries are able to change their syllabus and the teaching laboratory supports,  in line with the latest technical and commercial developments. Those in the "developing" and "under-developed" nations continue their century or decades old curriculum. Hence the country tag plays an important role to decide the current or out-dated knowledge of any job-seeker. But this situation is fast changing. Developed country Universities are opening collaborated institutions in developing / under-developed nations, to impart the latest techniques and tools,  as well as curriculum revision benefits. Also the local universities in every country  are realising this gap, from lack of students and modernising their teaching contents and methodologies. Soon the country tag will disappear and the institution tag will take over. (This change was observed from the stalls of the universities from China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Middle / Far / Near East, Vietnam etc... side by side with the stalls of universities from Australia, Canada, UK, USA in the 14th Gulf Education  & Training Exhibition, held in Dubai World Trade Centre, between 9th and 12th April 2002). But what I am worried is the high cost of such education, which is not affordable either by any  aspiring parent,  or a talented and deserving  student !

Education should be available to all people in the world either at free or affordable cost. It is part of human rights.

3. Bottom Line   : The essence of all the above in this bottom-line is :-

  • Computer is not a field of future prospects, but utilising the computer to any of the individual's speciality area is the opportunity opened for future career students.

  • For any accredited job in the future (whatever may be the line of specialisation) educational requirement has gone up from a simple degree to a post graduate level. It should be from an institution (not a country) recognised in the world as accredited to provide the latest knowledge.

  INNOVATION - 01 of 01

  • Herr.Von Hoff, Auto Parts Designer, Dusseldorf, Germany. 3 December 2001. { TOPIC : INNOVATION }

I am a innovator. I have designed many original clutch models for heavy duty trucks. Automobile is my interested subject. I read your Innovation material. No more man innovation. Computer has come into design. See Autocad. Any thing you give to computer, it will design. It improves better than man brain. I am no more Innovator and I am not needed. Tell me how I innovate as you say in your paper.

My Reply

Computer itself is an innovation by man. Computer is a machine like an automobile. It cannot work without the people behind. That is why computer is called a "Hardware", like Clutch, Brake, Steering etc... in an Automobile.

Automobile cannot go on its own on the road. It needs driver to drive. Same with a computer. It needs "Software" to tell how to work. The people behind make the Software. Autocad is a Software, to make the computer to do designs and not  for innovation.

So manpower is always wanted for innovation, even if the computer is there.

But the type of innovation changes as time goes. There is no end for man's innovation.

  • Mechanical clutches in a gear automobile are changed to Hydraulic clutches in Automatic automobiles.

  • Now, the area for innovation is in automobiles running with Solar (Sun Light and Heat) or Gas power. Automobile drives through friction (otherwise they will slip on the road).

  • Space ships are also automobiles to drive into space. They need all the driving parts of the automobiles. Only they are very high speed to break from the pulling power of the Earth (Gravitation). They use liquefied gas fuel (Hydrogen) and drive due to the reaction by pumping the burnt fuel backward (Action = Reaction).

  • The area for innovation is :

    • Is it possible to make them levitate (float & fly) by any  anti-gravity method to push out of the  Earth ? Then they do not need liquid fuel.

    • Another area is Earth has magnetism. Like poles of a magnet repel (go away from each other. North & North or South & South).

    • So, can the space ship use repelling magnet to go away from the Earth ? Then also they do not need liquid fuel.

    • Like this there are many areas for innovation.

  • The manual design is checked by a mechanical proto-type. Now no need for proto-type.

  • Put the design into the computer's Design Software. It will test, give the result and suggest how to improve the design. There is always a need for manual innovation.

  • Computer is only a helper to the man for innovation

From The Motor Ship, The Marine Technology Magazine, UK. June 2003. Page 10. News. Advisories. "Distraction of Technology"

It is the IT age and computers are supposed to solve our every need. Yet the grounding of a vessel in restricted waters off western Scotland has led to the ship's owner having all computers removed from the bridges of its entire fleet. The 4,500g cargo ship ran aground on a clear summer's morning after its automatic steering failed to implement a planned change of course. The Officer-On-Watch had been left alone on the bridge...The master was asleep at the time and having been woken by the impact made his way to the bridge where he found the OOW holding the steering joystick with the steering switched to manual control. It took four days to re-float the ship and it suffered substantial bottom damage.... A report of the incident, published by the Marine Accident Investigation Branch of Transport says ".... The decision taken by the ship's owner to remove computers from the bridges of all their vessels, is seen as a positive step".

MGMTSLIDE     03F   MANAGEMENT - 01 of 02

Dr.Malvyn Copen, Professor in Management Science, Boston, USA.  February 4, 2002. { TOPIC : MANAGEMENT }

One of my research assistant in   recent Economic development theories, got a link to your Website. I read your paper on "A Redefined Productivity Model and Socio Economic Development oriented Management Decisions".
The paper eventhough uses a very complex algebra, ends with a summary that the Productivity has to be a ratio of Socio-Economic Development Units divided by the quantity of Inputs, Outputs; as well as the ratio of Socio-Economic Development Units divided by the Input management decisions, Output management decisions.

My question is how to quantify

  1. The Socioeconomic Development goals.
  2. The Input Management Decisions.
  3. The Output Management Decisions.

I am looking forward to your earliest reply to the same email address, as a we are working on a research project on effective management tools for government sectors in developing countries.

My Reply :

I am extremely happy to know your critical interest to decipher and refer my concepts in Productivity and Management Decision, in your research work. Now we are in a millennium which is digitising the Musical recording   and TV transmissions, which were considered as an exclusively analogue area till 1990s. Equally, anything in Management and Socio-economic area can be digitised and quantified. World war 2 experiences introduced the concept of "Operations Research" to build mathematical models for optimising management decisions. Similarly the "Econometrics" providing the use of mathematics, has become an area of specialisation in the faculty of Economics, considered for decades as an abstract and theoretical subject. Jan Tinbergen of Netherlands was a pioneer in the development and application of Economic models in Economic Analysis. He was awarded the 1969 Nobel prize in Economic science. Now, let me answer your questions. Here I provide the exhaustive details on how every aspect of Socio-Economic Development, Management Input / Output factors could be quantified, in order to assist your research project.

1. The quantified aspect of Socio-Economic development goals are :-

  • Number of employment provided by sector.

  • Per capita consumption of food grains.

  • Fare paid by the population per Bus-Kilometer.

  • Per capita consumption of Pure water.

  • Per capita availability of clothing materials.

  • Per capita availability of constructed living space.

  • Per house-hold availability of essential drugs.

  • Per acre availability of fertiliser.

  • Production of Essential / Luxury / Controlled Items per Kilowatt Electric Power.

  • Number of house holds having Electric / Gas / Telephone links per Square Kilo meter etc....

These could be cumulated from Per capita / Per House-hold to District, State and National level.

2. The quantified aspect of Management Input Decision are :-

  • Man-hour spent in Raw material purchases separated by Essential / Luxury / Controlled items.

  • Man-hour spent in material purchase meetings separated by Essential / Luxury / Controlled items.

  • Man-hour spent in new designs / design modifications separated by Essential / Luxury / Controlled items.

  • Man-hour spent per employee recruitment.

  • Travel hours per supplier quality verifications separated by Essential / Luxury / Controlled items etc...

These could be cumulated by Division, Department, Functional unit, and the Total Corporate / Government Group or sector etc...

3. The quantified aspect of Management Output Decisions are

  • Man-hour spent in Sales separated by Essential / Luxury / Controlled items.
  • Man-hour spent in sales promotion meetings separated by Essential / Luxury / Controlled items.
  • Man-hour spent in new product launching separated by Essential / Luxury / Controlled items.
  • Man-hour spent per customer contacts separated by Essential / Luxury / Controlled items.
  • Travel hours per customer sales / collection separated by Essential / Luxury / Controlled items etc...

These could be cumulated by Division, Department, Functional unit, and the Total Corporate / Government Group or sector etc........

MANAGEMENT - 02 of 02

INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED FINANCIAL ANALYSTS OF INDIA. Hyderabad. India. Professor Navin Das, Consulting Editor, ICFAI Journal of Managerial Economics. May 5, 2004. Topic ; Management.

The Chartered Financial Analyst, Treasury Management, Insurance Chronicle, Professional Banker, Effective Executive, HRM Review, Case Folio, Journal of Applied Finance, Journal of Applied Economics, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Corporate Governance, Journal of Intellectual Property Rights, Journal of Cyber Law and Journal of Business Law are a few titles of some of our magazines and journals. All our magazines contain both original (contributed by the editorial team) and reprinted articles.

Similarly, we have made a humble beginning in the field of Economics too. We have brought out a journal as ICFAI Journal of Managerial Economics. In this regard, we wish to seek your permission to reprint your paper entitled, A REDEFINED PRODUCTIVITY MODEL & SOCIO-ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ORIENTED MANAGEMENT DECISIONS........

My Reply

I am happy to find that the Institute of Charted Financial analysts of India is adding value to the analytical approach by reinforcing/integrating the concepts of Managerial Economics. I wish that the concepts of Sociology is also given equal importance, in addition.

During my assignment with the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation (CFTC), London, UK and the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB. An UNDP/World bank setup for Regional Development), Barbados, West Indies, I found that the Developing and Under-developed nations are either stagnant or slide downwards, in their status. Hence I was eager to find concepts to drastically tune the development acceleration of these nations. The result of my association and discussions on this prime matter with 5 Nobel Laureates in Economic Science, President / Secretary Generals of International Development Institutions, Progressive Congressmen of the United states, Prime Ministers of the Member nations and Independent Socio-Economic development workers, resulted in the production /publication of this paper.

I found and introduced the need to analyse, evaluate and justify the development projects prior to approval as well as post implementation stage, under 4 Rate of Returns :-
1. Economic (Living standard adequacy of primary needs & household saving capability).
2. Financial (Investment).
3. Technical (Capability to develop and use advanced technology).
4. Social (Employment promotion, Domestic know-how utility, Happiness, Peace and Prosperity).

This resulted in the drastic re-definition of the concept of Productivity and associated re-orientation of Management Decisions at the Government / Private levels of Administrative control.

A country like India evaluates the Investments in Agriculture, Communication, Transportation etc... in unilateral Financial Rate of Return; Atomic / Space exploration projects in unilateral Technical Rate of Return. The Economic and Social Rate of Return are completely absent. Satisfied with these limited evaluation, the nation claims that it has made strides in Development. Actually India is visibly slipping from Developing to Under-developed status (Population expansion also pulls the Percapita income downward by acting as a diving  denominator to divide the GNP). As a result, India has become a source for the supply of high quality products / raw materials at cheaper rates, and high-know-how/tech/skill Manpower supply pool at lower wages, to the developed world. This environment assist the developed nations, to sustain their advanced status, as well as to develop them further at the cost of Developing / Under-developed nations, including India.

On the other hand, an advanced nation like US attach priority / importance to Economic and Social Rate of Return for every aspect of their projects and investments, keeping the Financial and Technical frames as secondary. The impact of this Management Decision orientation is obviously visible from the standard of living, happiness, saving capability etc.. of the Developing / Under-developed population, who migrate into US/Other developed nations. (Please note that un-social behaviours, thoughts and acts are not part of these population. It originates due to over-wealth & terrorist minded personnel, who are present in all nations). Feed back to my concepts from US also confirms that if they shift their Evaluation and Decision priority, they will start slipping towards Developing and Under-development status. The lesson is very simple,  and any Developing/Under developed nation can also do it !!!

I am sure the broad-based view of your Institution will contribute towards a different and practical view of Productivity, and re-orient the Management Decision methodology accordingly.

   MOTIVATION - 01 of 02

Madhu, Agriculturist, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. January 10, 2002. (Contents are translated from a Letter in Marathi Language). { TOPIC : MOTIVATION }

I saw your website in the internet centre  opened by a Non-Resident Indian group. They are my friends, studied with me in the school, went abroad and made money. They have prospered to the extent of opening an internet centre here. But they intelligently left the village behind to suffer in poverty, and they prospered well.

While Maharashtra is one of the most economically advanced states in India, 37 % of the population was listed as poor in a 1993-1994 government survey. The "Uchangi Dam"  is in the southern district of Kolhalpur (population 3 million). People like us who trusted the dam and  agriculture and sat back in the village, feel foolish. The dam, built for our irrigation is not properly maintained and repaired by the Public Works Department (PWD).  Failure of monsoon is common.

The cost of labour, fertiliser, insecticide etc.. has increased beyond our control. In 1960, to produce 20 Kgs Bag of good quality of Paddy, it was costing 60 Rupees (Rs) , and we use to sell it at 85 Rs . We got a profit of 25 Rs in each Bag. Our family use to get and sell about 300 Bags in 2 crops per year, getting a net income of 7,500 Rs. The labour was good and trust-worthy. There was sufficient money. So people like my grand father was able to think of Social service and good for the people in the village, with motivation.

Now in 2002 (after 42 years) to produce the same 20 Kg Bag of paddy, it costs 600 Rs (10 times), and we cannot sell it beyond 550 Rs, due to price controls and other restrictions on food items. The annual production has gone down to 200 Bags. We have to incur a loss of 50 Rs per Bag and in a year the loss is 10,000 Rs. The laborers are also not trust worthy. So all the agriculturists like me, have sold the lands and try to live in the interest we get on these cash deposits in the bank. We are in great difficulty and in poverty, as the prices of food items and other needs are going up day by day. The entire village agricultural people have gone out to work in the cities and abroad. This is the net effect brought by the education in the village.

Now what is there to motivate us ? Do you think your internet paper is practical ?

My Reply
(Contents are translated from my reply in Marathi language)

First of all I am happy to find your motivation to see the internet and write to me like this. Four important things are missing between 1960 and 2002.

  1. The co-operation, adjustment and group work between your grand father and other similar persons in different social community groups in the village.

  2. Their ability to consider the village progress as more important than their selfish gains.

  3. The joint family system of having one big agricultural land.

  4. The Land Lords shared their joy and happiness with their Labour, as well as shared, consoled and reconciled the laborer's sorrows and problems.

  5. In Peace & Prosperity, there is a foreground of Happy feeling and a background of Motivation. The above 1 to 4 format the foreground. If it is successful, then the Motivation automatically emerges in the background.

Now you cannot say I am wrong, if I state that the Group work has shattered, Selfish gains are considered as more important than the welfare of the family or the social groups, the lands are divided among various family members into small pieces not economical for farming, and the labour is considered as a commodity without any respects for their ambitions, values, feelings and expectations in life.

Education is imparted to improve the knowledge for betterment and welfare formation. But if the individual thinking and attitude are divergent and wrong, then education cannot come to the help. Or the knowledge gained by the education is used effectively to break the above 4 items, important for welfare, peaceful and happy life status.

So in two words -

  1. The missing     thing is Constructive Motivation.
  2. The prevailing thing is  Destructive Motivation.

This I call in my Motivation paper as 1 = {BEST + PEDAL} and
2 = {BEST - PEDAL}.

Both the constructive and destructive approaches attempt to do their BEST. But the PEDALING is PLUS in case of Constructive attitude, and MINUS in case of Destructive attitude.

If people in 2002 can come out of their shells, get motivated and bring back the above 4 values to life and practice, it will open the path for getting back the prosperity of 1960.

You must be cycling in the village. Even if the bicycle is of a best brand, if you Pedal forward, you progress and reach the place. If you pedal backward, you will not be able to see the hurdles behind, and you will end in trouble. (That is why the cycle is designed not to go back on reverse pedal, and it simply rotates in the reverse).

   MOTIVATION - 02 of 02

Dr.Arun Venkatanathan, Post Doctoral Research Scholar,
Department of Chemistry & Bio Chemistry, University of California, Los Angeles, CA 90095, USA.  Career Making Student.September 2, 2002. {Area : Motivation}

I am writing this e-mail on behalf of my brother Arvind Venkatanathan, who is based in Bombay, India. He is currently looking for a job opportunity.... His welfare has been of great concern to us and hence I make this request to you (as my grand parents / aunt at Kadayam says a lot about you)....
I got a chance to see your Website and this has been a motivating factor that my brother Arvind should really get into interact and work with you or any one whom you suggest if possible.

My Reply

I am very happy to receive your Email and your motivation to induct your brother with me or any one whom I suggest. To make it  effective, result oriented and successful, I wish to provide the following detailed  discussions. Please you go through this carefully and also inform your brother and father to read, and act as per the following directions.

A. Mental Alignment for a Career.

  • Motivation, which is a mental alignment for a career, is something which emerges from within one's aptitude, personality and the way of thinking. However, an external person can also induct a methodology for motivation into one's individual personality. Continued and devoted Motivation leads to a frame of mind for Innovation. These are comprehensively dealt by me in my Website pages Motivation and Innovation. I wish that you and your brother carefully read, and understand the inner meanings of the contents of these 2 pages.

  • It is common that people will not be able to get into a profession or career in line with their motivation and interest, as well as  to make their earnings and continue to survive. Hence there are two options before everybody.

  1. Consistently strive to be in line with your self-motivation and aptitude, by rejecting any other options and opportunities which may come across. It is a hard path, and makes one difficult to survive and achieve. Such options are taken by persons like JRD. Tata, Mother Theresa etc.. ( Included in my Web Pages on Motivation, and grouped under "Examples of Self-Motivation". Please click on them if you wish to see OR

  1. One can prepare to get into the largely available opportunities in the world, or which comes across them on its own. Then develop / direct their motivation to progress and make strides in that chosen line. It is easier, and one will have a base support to survive and continue. Such avenues are taken by persons like Jerome D'Souza.
( Included in my Web Pages on Motivation, and grouped under "Examples of Self-Motivation" Please click on  if you wish to see ).

In line with option 2 above and to suit the basic background of you brother, I recommend that he should choose to make his career in the area of "Data Entry Operator". There is an enlarging and expanding scope for this job, because of computerisation in almost all fields in the world. Computer and Internet cannot function and exhibit their utility, unless the needed information (data) is entered, by the persons behind it.

B. Mental Infrastructure for a Career.

But he should prepare himself and his mental capability, by undergoing the basic training in Practical Data Entry, having the following contents, either in  a  3 Months duration program with on-hand experience at reasonable charges, or as a "Trainee" in any corporate organisation  :-

  1. Familiarisation with the latest Pentium - Booting and Closing, Starting / Using / Closing Windows 2000.  Ability to view the folders / files in the home and different user nodes in a network environment, Rename / delete files, Set up shortcuts / icons for direct mouse double click executions etc....

  2. Familiarity with 2000 - MS Word & Excel. Ability to create new data, open / change existing, open as a copy, rename, save, save as (in the home and at different directories & net work machines) etc...and ability to use the help options.

  3. Email & Internet access know-how. Dial up, Choose a browser, Open an Email / Internet site, Inbox / Folders / Compose / save / send / print Emails, Search internet sites and get the required information / provide feed backs, User Id / Password entry & changes  etc...

  4. A live commercial Data Entry, Update, Print reports like Accounting or  Airline Reservation or Bibliographic information or Census data or  Patient and Medical records in a hospital or Pay roll or  Stores stock master &  transactions or the use of SAP etc.. with in-built edits and on-line helps. ( Not a theoretical setup with assumed / limited / standard software modules, with data generated and entered on individual's thinking ).

If this background is created, then it is easy to search for jobs through the Internet as well as vacancy announcements in different media. He can face the employer's requirement with confidence as a fairly experienced person, under the support of the background, already created by (a) to (d) above.

Then it is possible for you as well as me to induct your brother to any prospective employers, with confidence. After wards,  he can develop / direct his motivation to progress and make strides in the Computer Data Entry and associated fields, like
Jerome D'Souza. ( Please click to see).

  05D.  MUSICAL - 01 of 05

Cathy Gorden Phillip, Music Teacher, Durham Drive, Raleigh, North Carolina, USA.   March 10, 2002.  { TOPIC : MUSICAL }

I am a music teacher in the local Baptist Elementary school. I have a very positive approach and attitude that small small children if taught the simple music with good thoughts for innovation, they will surely become the masters in the area with new new skits of great attraction for the world of listeners.

I never know there are interesting and new type of musical approach till I saw your site www.drvsrs.com. Actually a friend of mine in Charlette suggested and first I thought it is for economic professors. But by chance I got into your write-up on musical and hexoctal. O Boy, it opened a new light with musical diagrams explaining how to combine and mix  key notes. I was trying to get a book for the last 5 years like this, with sorting by white and black keys. Because you know children understand easily if you tell them what color key and how many keys you should use to play a song. Your website is now sufficient to make up my wants.

Now I am trying to mix the Indian Karnatak method in my school teaching as you have explained in your "Hexoctal code" set and "Window for Universal Music"

But I have a big question. In your diagram under "Step-B. Musical Notes, you say Indian karnatak music has 3 Ri, 3 Ga, 3 Dha and 3 Ni sounds. But you have mixed Ri2 and Ga1 with D, R3 and Ga2 with D#, Dha2 and Ni1 with A, Dha3 and Ni2 with A#. Is it correct to give same note sound to two different notes ? I can't say my D and D# are on the same key. So how Karnatak music can be full with mixed sound notes on same key ?

You are right or wrong????

My Reply

I expected a question like this to come when I was preparing my complex diagram. But I never thought it will come so soon. Let me first of all thank you for opening the channel for Error free and complete music.

You are perfectly correct, because two different sound notes cannot be on the same key.

I am wrong in line with the public practice and available configuration of the Key Boards. For a century, the key boards are designed in line with the Equally tempered scale having 11 Notes between the Base C and Octave C. So the Karnatak music is fitted into this limitation of {1 Base C + 11 Notes = 12}, to reach the Octave C. In doing this, two different notes get combined into 1 key.

Truly speaking the total Notes are :-

  • Base Sa(B), Ri1, Ri2, Ri3, Ga1, Ga2, Ga3, Ma1, Ma2, Pa, Dha1, Dha2, Dha3, Ni1, Ni2, Ni3 and Octave Sa(O)

  • So between Base Sa and Octave Sa there are 15 Notes.

  • In line with the rule of Equally tempered scale, the music interval should be 16th Root of 2 for Karnatak music (instead of the 12th root of 2 as per Equally tempered scale). Then the Key arrangement should look like this.

   Sa(B)        Ri-1         Ri-2          Ri-3         Ga-1         Ga-2         Ga-3          Ma-1        Ma-2
| 261 . 60 | 273 . 18 | 285 . 28 | 297 . 91 | 311 . 10 | 324 . 88 | 339 . 26 | 354 . 29 | 369 . 98 |
    C(B)                                                               D#                                                                   F#

       Pa         Dha-1       Dha-2       Dha-3        Ni-1          Ni-2         Ni-3         Sa(O)
| 386 . 36 | 403 . 47 | 421 . 33 | 439 . 99 | 459 . 47 | 479 . 82 | 501 . 06 | 523 . 25 |
                                                             A                                                               C(O)

I have indicated where the Western Notes can fit into this new key set.  Base C, D#, F#, A and Octave C find a place in this Key arrangement. Other notes are in between the notes in this set. I have designed an ideal Key Board to correctly play the notes in Karnatak Music. I am adding this to my "Hexoctal" Page with due acknowledgement to you. It will be under  "Step-E. Primary ragam Set", in about 15 days time. But it will not be available in the Market !!!. SEE : Key Board For Ideal Karnatak Music.

  • Even Arabic songs cannot be played correctly on a Key Board available in the market. Because they also have many intermediate notes like Karnatak music.

  • String instruments like Violin can produce all these notes in any music, by pressing the string at any point one likes.

  • Air instruments like Flute can also produce all these notes in any music,   by opening half / quarter hole + blowing hard or slow. (Human Voice is also an air instrument).

  • Key board cannot produce anything other than the notes set on each Key.       GO  TOP

  MUSICAL - 02 of 05

Nusrath Ali Bangash, Pharmacist, F - Block, Model Town, Lahore, Pakistan. 7th October 2002. {Topic - Music}

In your music paper you have mentioned about the sonic resonance frequency for everything in the world and your personal experience (01B) on the top. But you have not said any thing about this effect in the music or hexoctal frames. I am also seeing many information about music therapy, music healing etc..in TV, News papers, Internet etc... Are they true or just an illusion ?

My Reply

SOUND

Sound frequency ranging from 50 Hertz(Hz) to 20,000 Hz reach the inner ear (1 Hertz = 1 vibration per second). Sound below 50 Hz are infra-sonic or sub-sonic and above 20,000 Hz are ultra-sonic or Super-sonic. They are beyond hearing. The ultra-sonic sound could damage the ear and body, due to the very fast vibration. With its vibration, sound travels at about 1192 Kilo meters (740 Miles) per hour in the air. Also, as it travels more and more distance, the audibility (ability to hear) reduces at a rate of the square of the distance traveled.

SMOOTH SOUND

Any smooth vibration given to a body brings the feeling of relaxation. The examples are :-

  • Babies are made to sleep by swinging them in a cradle.

  • Person travelling in a Bus or Car on rough roads,  fell sleepy (eventhough it is not their natural sleeping time),because of the up,   down and turning side vibrations given to the body. (Please note that a person travelling in a train or plane do not feel sleepy, due to their movement without any up/down or side vibration, unless they are tired or their regular sleeping time).

  • Soft music brings a feeling of happiness and relaxes the body. That is why the mothers sing to make a baby sleep.

HARD SOUND

Any rough vibration given to a body brings an uncomfortable and breaking feeling. The examples are :-

  • Many persons travelling for the first time in a Ship vomit and get stomach aches. This is because of the random / circular directional vibrations (up, down, sides) produced by the ship, when it travels against the waves. (Body gets adjusted to this by experience, and that is why the professional sailors are able to continue in their jobs).

  • Those who undertake air travel for the first time feel an intolerable pain inside the ears and vomiting sensation, while take off and landing. This is because of the sudden jerk (or vibration) given to the air inside the body (vibrations), due to the upward and downward movement of the plane at very high speeds. (Body gets adjusted to this by experience, and that is why the professional pilots and the crew are able to continue in their jobs).

  • A loud thunder during the rainy day creates uncomfortable feelings and deafens the ears.

  • Glass can be shattered by a shrill sound.
  • Hard   vibrations (noise) bring a feeling of head ache and frustration.

SOUND & LIFE

All the above illustrate the following facts :-

  • Sound vibrations could induce a good or bad effect to the human body, in general.

  • The same is applicable to animals, birds, reptiles etc...

  • A good vibration to one person could be bad to another and vice versa.

  • Body has the habit of getting adjusted to any bad vibration over a period of time.

Using these observed facts, it is possible to find a mixture of sound waves of different frequencies to bring an optimum relaxation as well as a good/happy feeling, suitable to each individual, by trial and error method. This is the theory behind a Music Therapy and Musical healing.

In addition to these, research is going on to tune the environment using the sound waves (like cluster the clouds and make it rain, control the volcanoes, send the sound waves underground to control the effects of earth quake etc...).

Since it is a complex concept and I am not sure about their tested and proved contributions, I did not go deep into this subject, except a cursory comment about my personal feelings.   GO  TOP

GOMATHY NAYAGAM.T.S, Tirunelveli Town, Tamil Nadu, India. Profession : Gold Smith. Date : 16 June 2004.           Subject : Musical Stone Marvel at Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, PIN CODE - 627001. India.

Your pages on “Music” and “Hexoctal”are interesting, thought provoking and integrates the “Art of Enjoyment  with the “Science of  its Source”.  You have mentioned that an ideal Karnatak music cannot be played correctly with the existing 12 Key set of keyboards (7 White & 5 Black). You have also designed a Key Board with 17 Keys (10 White & 7 Black), to play a real Karnatac music with all the note combinations, in reply to the view submitted by Cathy Gordon Phillip from North Carolina, USA. But I wish to tell you about an wonderful instrument cum artistic work in our “Nellai Appar” temple in Tirunelveli Town.  The temple was created by the Endowments of  King Kulottunga-1 in 1070-1125 AD, and rebuilt by the Nayak Dynasty in 1560 AD. The stone pillars supporting the roof  near the Sanctum Sanctorum of the temple, have ornamental and small stone sub-pillar columns, carved on the main pillar. These are 17 or even 20 numbers in a round.  If you strike each of these sub-pillar in order, you hear the exact frequency note of  the ideal Karnatak music. How they carved each of these single stone sub-pillars to produce such precision musical notes, synchronised to an ideal musical order ?   Also I wish to know how a smaller stone pillar produces a musical sound, while a big pillar or a hard rock cannot produce it ?

My Reply

To produce sound, any object have to vibrate within the range of  human audible frequency. Hence, they have carved the stones into smaller / thin pillars, which will vibrate when hit with any rod. They should have carved one sub-pillar at first, and set to the  base note by trial and error strikes with a rod. Then they should have carved the subsequent 16 or 19 sub-pillars with reference to the base-note pillar.  They should have also used a reference instrument like a string instrument “Veena” or an acoustic instrument “Nadhaswaram” to produce a reference note frequency for each sub-pillar and carved the sizes to resonate with the respective  reference notes, in order.  I also wish to integrate the Art with Science further. Every stone is a “Matter” (with volume, weight and a shape…). The source for these Matters are the Energy (Sound, Heat, Light…). When a matters is stationery (Static) and occupies a bigger volume of space, they absorb everything inside (gravitation), including the sound. When they are carved into smaller columns, the  Matter portion is reduced, then they occupy less space,  and the Energy aspect is enlarged. Hence they could be vibrated to produce Sound. Stretching this concept further, bigger the matter in a static condition, their propensity to absorb the Energy is more and more. Earth absorbs the electric energy (Lighting arrestors are deeply earthed), and a black-hole in space absorbs everything, including the light, so that nothing can escape out of it. When a matter is moving (dynamic) it  cuts and consumes the space.  More the rate of consumption of space (Speed or Velocity V), by a matter of mass M, it attains a higher Energy level, at (Mass X  (The Rate of Consumption of  Space)2 or V2 ), and looses its Mass and Matter level.  Ultimately, the Matter is synchronised with, and turned into a complete Energy, when they consume the space at the rate of the velocity of light (C). It leads to the Einstein’s equation
E = M X C2 . Inference : Energy provides the art of  Music through a matter at low space consumption level. Hence a hard rock cannot produce the sound, while a carved pillar stone can produce measured and precisely tuned musical tones.

SHANTHI IYER, Office Manager, Dubai, UAE. SUBJECT :  Ragams Indisa, Indalam, Gana Kurinchi

Sir, You have so much knowledge. Could you please clarify about 3 Janya ragas called INDISA, INDALAM and GANA KURINCHI, all these are used specially for Katha Kali Music. I wish to know these Ragas belong to which Mela Ragas and Arohanam and Avarohanam of these please. Your valuable time for me is highly appreciated. Look forward for a quick reply from you Sir. Thanks.

 My Reply :

PREFACE
1. Katha Kali means “Playing a story”. It is categorized as a male dominant
    Vigorous  dance.
In any dance, the prime controller is the beat  or
“Thalam”. The music is for a pleasant presentation  of the words of the
story enacted.  The Ragam of the music played, is so selected that it
synchronises  with the beats to which the dancer acts.

2. Katha Kali is an exclusive and original dance expressions of the
    mountain dominated Kerala region.

3. Mountain dominant region is called “Kurinchi Nilam” in the ancient
    Tamil and Malayalam linguistic
styles. The characteristics of the
landscape is the effects of Sounds from :-

    * Air Flowing through the wild trees, pastures, hills, rocks etc..,
   * Water falls.
   * Calls of the Mountain Birds and Animals.
   * Rain fall drops etc….
4. People living in  this land characteristics should be courageous, able to
meet the ups and downs, and be with nature, thrive and progress.

5. Hence, the musical fonts or Ragams of the Kathakali dance is so selected
to provide the phonetic feelings of the background environment, and the
foreground  behavioural  expressions of the dancer, enacting the different
    characters, in  the story.

OBSERVATIONS

 MUSICAL - 05 of 05

Ganeshan, Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence, Computing & Music, No 6, McQuoid Place. New Zealand. SUBJECT :  Gamagams of Karnatak Music

An excellent site with lots of information. I am still reading through all the information. A question though How will the proposed keyboard (Special Karnatak Music Key Board) can produce the gamakams of Carnatic music? Have you started manufacturing the keyboard ?

 My Reply

A. Gamakams (Melody Strain)

This can be classified into 2 categories.

01. A melodious continuity between 2 notes, either in the Forward
(Arohanam) or Backward (Avarohanam) direction. It is analogue in
nature, producing all possible in-between note continuity.
It is called a "Chalana Gamagam". There is a movement and it is
dynamic. In Western music it is called "
Glissando".
02. Emphasising the same note at different melodious pitches either Upward
or Downward or a combination of both. It is confined to one note and it is
Static. It is called a "Gamana Gamagam".  In Western music it is
      "
Tonic Accent".

How to produce it ?

A. Human voice is the best to produce the effect of Glissando or Tonic
Accent. This is done by moderating the quantum of air flow through the
mouth/nose and control of the voice chord by the throat. In addition, the
human brain inducts an imaginative dimension to the output.

B. The next best to produce the Gamakams are the String instruments
     (like Violin, Veena, Sitar etc..).

  • A Glissando is produced by sliding the finger smoothly between the 2 note producing points, to get all possible in-between notes with a smooth melody, continuity and synchronisation.

  • A Tonic Accent is produced by vibrating the strings hard or slow and/or moderating the pressure (by dragging side ways), at the same note producing point.

C. To some extent towards perfect Gamagam, can be produced by Sonic
(Wind) Instruments (like Flute, Nadhaswaram, Shenoy etc..)

  • A Glissando is produced by sliding or opening the finger the finger smoothly between the 2 note producing holes + control of full or partial opening on the holes, to get all possible in-between notes with a smooth melody, continuity and synchronisation.

  • A Tonic Accent is produced by blowing hard or slow + control of full or partial opening of the holes at the same note producing point.

D. A Key board is a digital instrument. Each key is assigned to a specific
frequency of a note. Taking care of the additional notes in Karnatak
music, I have designed a Key Board and synchronised the Note
Frequencies with the 'equally Tempered scale"
SEE : Key Board For Ideal Karnatak Music.

a) A Glissando effect of continuity cannot be created by
pressing 2 different note keys.  They will produce the
assigned frequency sounds separately. Even by sliding the
finger from one note to another, it will produce the
assigned frequency note of all in between  keys, but not all
possible  in-between notes to create a melodious continuity.

This could be achieved by providing,  a  Glissando effect setting Button (GE) + An Upward/Downward/Both - Slider  GEB +
A Fast/Medium/Slow slider (GES).

Pre-set GEB / GES intially. Press the GE Button and then touch the starting note first and ending note second. It can produce the Glissando effect from the starting to ending note, as per GEB and GES settings. When there is a music interval, GEB and GES settings can be altered, for subsequent Glissando. With the advancement in electronic technology, the Tonic Effect produced by an Electronic Key Board could be made par excellent and perfect, than all A, B, C explained above.

b) A Tonic Accent effect cannot be produced by repeatedly
pressing a key.  It will produce the same note in the same
pitch to which it is set.

This could be achieved by providing a Tonic Accent effect (TAE) setting Button + A Upward/Downward/Both - Slider (TAEB) + A Fast/Medium/Slow slider (TAES).

Pre-set the  TAEB and TAES initially. Then touch any particular note with TAE key. It can produce the Accent effect to which the note as per TAEB and TAES settings. When there is a music interval, TAEB and TAES settings can be altered, for subsequent Tonic effect. With the advancement in electronic technology, the Tonic Effect produced by an Electronic Key Board could be made par excellent and perfect, than all A, B, C explained above.

B. Manufacturing.

I have designed a ideal key board to play Karnatak Music in perfect format. Manufacturing the Key Board is similar to those in the market, to set circuits for each key to produce the assigned note frequency. All other features and Special setting facilities, Effect keys including a, b above etc.. are not a problem. But manufacturing it needs the following :-

  • An opinion survey on what percentage of population appreciate and accept a Key Board like this, in each selected market regions.

  • Market survey to find the Demand Volume.

  • Needed Net work for Training and user orientation on the finger-use variations.

  • Investments and Return on such investment estimation.

  • The Cost estimation &   Break even volume. (Demand should be more than this).
  • Making proto types and testing at the manufacturing site level, as well as at selected Customer expertise levels.

  • Pricing & the marketing Network etc......

I am negotiating with some prospective Techno-Commercial experts to initiate these.

MANAGEMENT    03F PRODUCTIVITY - 01 of 01

Angello Bocelli, Workshop Owner, Voghera, Italy. 24th November  2001.
{ TOPIC : PRODUCTIVITY }

I have one engineering work shop. I produce parts for machine and automobile industries in Milano and other near places in Italy. I am a sub contractor. I check my workshop ability and productivity by how much I put in versus how much I get out. I use money value and quantity value both. I am a private business man. You talk of productivity by Socioeconomic goals. What it has to do with me ?

My Reply

Every business in a country is directly or indirectly connected with Social and Economic conditions. You produce parts and supply. You have to make profit and grow. This is a business angle.

But you are also indirectly contributing to the social and economic areas of the country. They are :-

  • Providing employment to local population.

  • Improving the technical knowledge of the workers.

  • Employee welfare and health care.

  • Helping the industries you supply to export and earn foreign exchange.

  • You pay taxes and duties to the Government etc.....

As a business man, you check your industry's Productivity with reference to money and quantity input and output. But at the same time find out how much of your Productivity are contributing to the Social and Economic development area also.

  • Number of people employed over the years with reference to your output quantity and the average in your type of industry.

  • Contribution to the employees' income and health facilities with reference to output quantity and the average in your type of industry.

  • Export earned by your customer industries with reference to your sales over a year.

  • Tax and duty paid with reference to your sales over a year.

  • Etc.......

You can compare these over different years and see whether they are increasing or decreasing.

Unless every industry think and do something about this, the nation cannot survive, continue and progress.
